Amazing hotel discounts from Amex Offers

Anyone with an American Express card will tell you, the annual fee pays for itself via Amex Offers. I save hundreds of dollars on regular purchases every year thanks to Amex Offers. I get everything from my daily coffee habit to retail purchases and even travel for at least 15% off thanks to these deals.

Over the last few months, I’ve seen an uptick in travel-oriented offers that I plan to take advantage of. If you haven’t checked your Amex Offers promotions lately, you might want to look out for the following travel deals:

Kimpton: Spend $300 get $60

Everyone loves Kimpton hotels and if that’s not enough incentive for you to try the brand, Amex is offering $60 off when you spend $300 or more on room rates and charges. My offer is good through May 20, 2018 which will give me plenty of time to put the credit to use.

I’ve only ever stayed at one Kimpton property (see my Kimpton Ink 48 Hotel review), but I want to try more properties to understand what all the hype is about.

Note, this Amex statement credit is only valid at Kimpton hotels in the U.S. Both online and IHG Mobile App bookings qualify, which is a great opportunity to take advantage of the current lucrative mobile booking bonus.

Marriott: Spend $300+, get 4,000 Membership Rewards Points

There’s only a week left to take advantage of the Marriott point bonus, so realistically I’m going to lose out on it. If you’ve got a Marriott stay coming up, be sure to take advantage of this offer. You’ll earn 4,000 Membership Rewards points for spending $300 at participating Marriott hotels.

If you don’t currently have an active Marriott Rewards account, you can earn up to 2,000 bonus points on your first 5 stays by letting me refer you to the program.

Hilton Gift Card: Spend $50 or more, get $10 back

Before you knock Hilton for their inflated award chart, keep in mind that it’s actually one of the best hotel programs for earning free nights. It’s much easier to earn free nights via paid stays and credit card spending with Hilton than any other hotel chain (except for Club Carlson).

Combine generous returns on spending with $10 off $50 gift cards and the savings really stack up. It’s especially nice that this Amex Offer is valid on up to four purchases. This promotion ends on February 28, 2018 so you might want to get on this one quick!

Waldorf Astoria & Conrad Hotel: Spend $350 or more, Get $70 back

With the recent improvements to Hilton Honors Diamond elite benefits, members will finally receive free breakfast at Waldorf Astoria hotels. Factor in the $70 discount on $350 spent at Waldorf Astoria (and Conrad) hotels from American Express and you’ve got even more incentive to stay at one of these hotels.

The James New York NoMad Hotel: Spend $500 or more, get $100 back

The James NoMad recently opened after an extensive renovation of the former Carlton Hotel, and the results are pretty impressive. Even more impressive? American Express is offering $100 back when you spend $500 on room rates and charges at this hotel.

I was tempted to book the James NoMad Hotel during my recent trip to New York. Of course, I couldn’t get out of my Hyatt rut, so I stayed at the Andaz like a good little sheep does.

It’s a shame because, at the time, rates at the James Hotels NoMad were around $160 per night. I could have easily booked three nights for $400. That’s an awesome deal in any city, let alone New York.

If you have an upcoming stay in New York between now and March 15, you may want to give the James NoMad Hotel a try (and let me know your thoughts in the comment section).

Hilton properties in Australia: Spend $500 or more, get $75 back

Did you get in on that dirty cheap business class fare to New Zealand last fall? Then you probably booked a stopover in Sydney. Lucky for you, you can save $75 on a $500+ Hilton stay by charging it to your American Express card. Assuming you don’t have Park Hyatt Sydney to stay at the like everyone else. 😉

Did you get targeted for any of these Amex travel offers?

“Everyone loves Kimpton Hotels” …. who is everyone?

Literally everyone who’s ever stayed at one. That’s all I hear about “Kimpton is amazing! Have you stayed at Kimpton hotels? They’re awesome!”

I stayed at the Monaco in Philly. I think the appeal is the customer service and the pet friendly policy. My room had some cute, funky features that made it interesting.

“Everyone loves Kimpton Hotels.” Concur with Jim — who is everyone?

Whole post reads like a shill job for spending lots and lots of money on very high priced hotels. (which has been a pattern of late here, sadly) Getting 20% off high-end cash prices for Kimpton excites me as much as saving 5% at Whote Wallet. 😉

Missing the days of Drew Macomber and “TravelisFree” — these sorts of posts are the antithesis of that now fading memory.

Kimpton hotels have a cult following – everyone I know raves about them constantly. And they’re not at all what I would describe high priced (their rates aren’t up there with the likes of Four Seasons and St. Regis. I stayed at the Kimpton Ink48 last year in New York and I think the rate was like $180 per night. When I looked at rates for a stay last month, it was something like $165 per night. It depends on where you’re staying and when. So that 20% discount can go quite a long way.

Go to a Marriott that sell gift cards (it can be any brand, but I would call before, since not every hotel sells gift cards) and buy one for $300 that you can use later. The trick: it needs to be bought at the front desk, not the gift shop. It will code the right way and get you the 4000 points. I have done this every time Marriott has an Amex offer.
    Your welcome.

Good idea! I’ll try to test it before it expires.

I bought my 8 card max (2 Hilton cc) in January for 20% off my final bill at the Hilton (Curio Collection) Hotel Del Coronado in February. Greatness!

(btw I like Kimptons, but they are overpriced – I prefer Curio, Tapestry, or Tribute properties. mo betta deals & similar individuality).

They’re actually pretty reasonably priced during their sales, IMO. When I was searching for rates in Manhattan last month, Kimpton actually had lower rates than the hotel I ended up booking.

Would the WA discount work in Shanghai? Headed there in Oct this year.

It looks like mine expired, so I can’t check the terms anymore. I want to say it was U.S. hotels only though.
