Earning miles and points for shopping online with a credit card

Great American Express offers for January

American Express My Offers is a great program that offers lots of savings on everyday spending. I personally get enough value out of these targeted statement credits to off-set the annual fee on my SPG Amex card every year. This month, there are some really great offers available. Some of them are targeted. Be sure to check your account to see whether they’re available to you or not.

There are great savings on shopping, household bills and even travel. I’ve outlined some of the best statement credit offers I’ve been targeted for this month:
Earn bonus miles, elite status, and companion passes on your credit card spending through the end of the year!

Cell Phone Bill: Spend $75+, Get $10 Back

Expires: 1/31/2016

Pretty much everyone has cell phone and the monthly bill that accompanies it. Normally, you’d charge this bill to the Chase Ink Plus card to earn 5 points per $1 in this category. However, until January 31 American Express cardholders can get up to $20 worth of statement credits by charging cell phone bills from the following carriers to a qualifying credit card: AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, US Cellular Verizon.

You must make payments directly with the carrier, online or via mobile app.

You can earn the statement credit for this offer twice. To get a combined $20 cash back, I made two payments towards my cell phone bill. The credit was applied just a day or two later.

Burberry: Spend $500, Get $100 Back

Expires: 3/31/16

I wrote about the Burberry statement credit in my Week in Manufactured Spending post. It’s a $100 statement credit for $500 or more spent at us.burberry.com. I signed up for the offer, then ordered a $500 Burberry gift card online since the terms didn’t exclude gift card purchases.

They did specify that items must be purchased directly through the US Burberry website, so I didn’t go through a shopping portal in case that disqualified my purchase.

I plan on seeing the $500 gift card for $450 – $480, pocketing a decent profit and some free points from my Starwood Preferred Guest American Express Credit Card. UPDATE: The $100 statement credit from this offer posted to my account on January 13 – just two days after I placed the order.

Hulu: Spend $10 or More, Get $10 Back

Expires: 4/30/16

Hulu is pretty useless these days. But if you cancelled your cable service and are already bored of Netflix, this might be a good solution for catching up with some of your favorite shows. Hulu’s standard plan costs $8.99 per month but there’s also a commercial-free plan priced at $11.99 per month.

Though half the time when I try to watch something, I get a disclaimer stating that particular show doesn’t qualify for commercial-free streaming.

In any case, the Hulu commercial-free plan would make you eligible for this $10 statement credit offer from American Express. The terms specify that you must “spend a total of $10+ at huluoffer.com/amex,” so I’m not entirely sure if this is valid for existing accountholders or not.

If you don’t currently have a Hulu account, then sing up through the designated link to get a month of Hulu’s commercial-free streaming plan for $1.99.

Jetsetter: Spend $100 or More, Get $20 Back

Expires: 1/31/2016

Jetsetter has a large database of hotels around the world, including boutique properties and chain hotels alike. This should make redeeming the $20 statement credit on $100 or more worth of bookings fairly easy. Keep in mind that the $100 minimum excludes taxes or fees and bookings must be made on Jetsetter’s US website.

Jetsetter also has a referral program that offers a 5% discount for those who use a referral link to make a booking. The referrer then receives 5% of the booking total. This isn’t combinable with the Amex offer, but worth keeping in mind for future use. 😉

Cambria Hotels & Suites: Spend $100 or More, Get $35 Back

Expires: 1/18/16

If you’re staying at a US Cambria Hotels & Suites property, American Express is offering a $35 statement credit for $100 or more in room rates and room charges through January 18, 2016.

For those who aren’t families with Cambria Hotels & Suites, the chain is part of the Choice Privileges rewards program.

Hampton by Hilton: Spend $175 or More, Get $35 Back

Expires: 1/18/15

The Hampton Hotel deal appeared in the My Offers tab a few days ago. Unfortunately, it will expire on January 18. It’s perfect if you have a mattress run planned and want to save a few bucks.

Hampton hotel tend to be among the cheaper Hilton properties, so this is worth looking into if you want to get a super early head start on meeting elite requirements or completing a status challenge.

Morgans Hotel Group: Get 25% Off Your Stay

Expires: 1/31/16

Through Amex Offers, Morgans Hotel Group is offering 25% off hotels stays of two or more nights. Bookings must be made over the phone or at Morganshotelgroup.com/amex using promo code DSAXPR.

You must book your hotel by 1/31/16 and complete your stay by 3/31/16.

SLS Las Vegas: Stay 3 Nights, Receive $100 Resort Credit

Expires: 6/1/2016

This isn’t really a statement credit offer, but close enough. Book a 3-night stay at SLS Las Vegas through the designated link using promo code AMEX and you’ll get a $100 resort credit. This offer is good on stays completed by June 1, 2016.

The SLS Las Vegas is a Starwood property, which is great if you want a hotel that’s part of a major rewards program. Before booking this rate, be sure to compare it to others to ensure you’re not overpaying for that $100 resort credit.

The Raleigh Miami Beach, SLS South Beach, Redbury South Beach: Stay 3 Nights, Pay 2 Nights

Expires: 10/15/2016

Both of these deals work like the SLS Las Vegas promotion. Book 3 nights at The Raleigh Miami Beach, SLS South Beach, or Redbury South Beach using promo code AMEX and you’ll pay for just two. You must complete a stay by October 15, 2016 to qualify for this rate.

who is the best company to sell the Burberry gift card to?

I plan on selling mine either through eBay or the highest paying merchant on GiftCardGranny. Usually Cardpool and ABC Gift Cards end up paying out the highest amounts and they’re very quick with payments. But I’d check GiftCardGranny, since payout rates may change.

Ariana – On the Hulu offer, I can confirm it does work for existing accounts, you just have to swap in the appropriate card.
