We all know about the 48-month rule for Citi cards but those that have been studying, sharing and networking have been able to continue to add to their AAdvantage miles stash through AA mailers. The saga goes something like this:
When a newbie joins the American Advantage program, in many cases a month to two months down the line they are offered the opportunity to apply for a Citi AAdvantage credit card. And in many of these offers, there is no 24 (or now 48) month language. And it seems that Citi has not done a very good job of policing the people that actually apply.
Citi AAdvantage card mailers without the 48-month language?
Suppose your neighbor, fellow apartment building dweller, gave you this mailer. Or you got a hold of one that had not been used, proceeded to enter the invitation code provided and then entered all your own personal information??
Do any of these details remind you of the recent Barclays AAdvantage offer with no minimum spend and no first-year fee that people get when flying American Airlines and have recently appeared in several of the deals blogs?
Citi does a lousy job of enforcing invitations is about all I’m gonna say on this one. I’m gonna take the “old line approach” and tell anybody interested to do the research. There is a thread you may find of interest in Flyertalk – Miles and Points-Credit Card Programs – Citi Thank You Points. It has over 1900 replies and 130 pages. Including a Wiki and the constant evolution of Citi trying to keep up with the ingenuity of like-minded hobbyists.
You may find interesting time frames of 1/8/65 days, business card guidelines, multiple approvals off the same mailer, emailers taking over snail mail, AAparties and a host more details of how people are constantly adding to their AAdvantage stash.
Reddit also has discussions. Although I find Reddit hard to follow and mailers are actually available in the marketplace as well. Fido has gotten mailers and Fluffy has as well. But all that is there for you to figure out if you are so inclined.
Is this avenue getting more difficult to use? Why yes of course. As we the hobbyists find loopholes, Citi tries to close them. But I am still planning on looking for mailer opportunities. In fact, if anybody is successful in finding a mailer and wants to add me to their AAparty, I’d love to join.
