My stay at the Hyatt Regency Paris Charles De Gaulle wasn’t planned but turned out to be just what I needed. After a hellish few days, I ended up at Charles De Gaulle Airport, which is one of the worst airports in the world. When planes aren’t landing and taking off, Charles de Gaulle doubles as a massive torture chamber meant to suck the life out of even the most patient travelers.
I hadinitially planned on catching a train at the TGV station and head to Calais. After multiple ridiculous, avoidable delays, I finally made it to the train station but couldn’t buy a ticket. After missing two trains, I decided to catch a shuttle bus to the Hyatt Regency Charles de Gaulle.

How to Get There
There are four shuttle buses serving multiple CDG airport hotels along the same route. The Silver line is for Hyatt Regency guests and it makes the rounds every 20 minutes. The Hyatt Regency CDG is the last hotel on the route.
It was just my luck that when I arrived, there were around 100 people in the lobby and spilling out onto the sidewalk. Even the elite check-in area line was long, so I just took a seat for the next 30 minutes rather than risk passing out from exhaustion.
The hotel lobby is really nice, with a large atrium. There is a table with complimentary coffee by the front desk, which I very much appreciated as I sat and waited for the madness to die down.
When things slowed down, I went to check in and found the staff to be very pleasant. I was asked about my room preference (“one with a bed”) and told I’d been upgraded to a Club Deluxe Suite, making this my fourth suite upgrade on this trip!
Of course, I missed the club lounge hours because I feel asleep that afternoon and didn’t wake up until the next morning.
Club Deluxe Suite
The Club Deluxe Suite was a spacious room located on a corner of the second floor. The layout was a bit odd. When I walked in, the first thing I noticed was the strong smell of gas.
There was also the sound of gas in the walls, which made me want to switch rooms. I just didn’t have it in me to walk all the way to the elevator, down to the lobby, and back.
It was a very nice day outside and the room had three large, floor-to-ceiling windows to let in the light.
For a room meant to accommodate two people, there was an awful lot of seating: A 3-person couch and two matching chairs, along with the swivel chair by the desk. One thing the room was lacking? Power outlets. There was practically none, which was disappointing for a hotel room that had recently been renovated.
You can always tell a hotel room has been renovated when everything in the room is new, except for the doors. The doors were old and peeling, along with a corner of the desk.
The phone didn’t have numbers to direct dial the front desk, so I had to refer to the directory to make a call.
The suite had lots of closet space – there was one closet by the entrance and one in the corridor leading to the bathroom. In the same corridor was a large dresser offering additional storage space.
Diamond Amenity
Before dozing off, I heard a knock on the door and it was the check-in agent with a welcome amenity of pralines and bottled water. This amenity was in addition to the 1,000 points I requested as a Diamond amenity at check-in.
I loved the chocolate and the water bottle was especially appreciated since I was beat and in no mood to make the long trek to the lounge.
Club Deluxe Suite Bathroom
The bathroom was how all bathrooms should be: Sparkling clean and well stocked with Verbena amenities. These were probably the best hotel bath products I’ve ever used. My hair got so strong and glossy after one use, I could have starred in a shampoo commercial.
There were two sets of bath products in the shower and by the sink. I had a nagging feeling the hotel in Calais wouldn’t be so well equipped, so I decided to stash these amenities in my bag.
Man was I glad I did that when I walked into the Ibis Hotel in Calais and found a 3-in-1 soap/shampoo/body wash product hanging on the wall.
Other than a shower door that wouldn’t close properly, the bathroom was very nice. I prefer a bathroom that has some natural light and this one fit the bill.
Diamond Breakfast at Hyatt Regency Paris Charles de Gaulle
The next morning I went to the lounge shortly after it opened and found my key didn’t work. The front desk informed me the lounge was closed on weekends. As a result, I could instead have breakfast at Apollo Restaurant located on the ground floor.
The buffet has everything you’d want: A variety of pastries, bread, cheese, yogurt, drinks, and some hot options.
My only complaint was that the eggs were cold. Other than that, it was a very nice breakfast buffet that surpassed my expectations for a European airport hotel.
Come to think of it, between this hotel, the Hilton Munich Airport and the Hyatt Regency Thessaloniki, airport hotels really knocked it out of the park in this trip.
Final Thoughts
The Hyatt Regency Paris Charles de Gaulle is a great hotel if you’re transiting through CDG Airport or arriving late at night for a longer stay in Paris. You should keep the 20 minute distance by bus in mind when you’ve got a flight to catch.
There’s a also shopping center across the street. So if you don’t like the isolation that comes with staying at airport hotels, you’ve got some options for entertainment while staying here.
For me, the Hyatt Regency Paris Charles de Gaulle was a good place to sleep off the exhaustion of the past few days. After a good night’s sleep and a healthy breakfast, I booked my train ticket online, printed it at the computer station of the hotel lobby, and headed back to the chaos of CDG to catch the train to Calais.
