Uber Eats launched back in August 2014 and is currently available in many major cities, including San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Chicago (to name a few).
The company partners with a few local restaurants and serves up a daily menu of items that can be purchased through the app. Uber users can then order meals through the Uber app and have them delivered by Uber drivers.
Drivers pull up curbside, you pick up your food, and the card on file with your Uber account is charged.
You can actually user Uber referral credits to cover the cost of an Uber Eats order. However, with currently referral rates at $15, I’d rather use those credits towards actual rides.
Gilt Uber Eats Deal
There’s some good news: First time Uber Eats users get a FREE $10 Uber Eats Credit from Gilt City. This deal is available on Gilt Chicago, New York, and San Francisco.
I’m not sure if you can claim a voucher from a participating Gilt City site (i.e. San Francisco) and then redeem it for an Uber Eats purchase in a city that didn’t have the deal available on Gilt (i.e. Los Angeles). The voucher is free, so you might as well claim it.
This isn’t the first time Uber Eats has offered a $10 credit, but if you haven’t taken advantage of it in the past, you might want to do so now.
Gilt is offering one code per person, so be sure to RSVP for your coupon ASAP. These $10 Uber Eats coupons must be redeemed by February 10, 2016 and are good for first-time users only.
My First Experience Using Uber Eats
I used Uber Eats for the first time last week in San Francisco. It’s as easy as requesting a ride: Open the Uber app and click on the plate icon at the top of the screen to see the daily menu.
I didn’t feel like walking two blocks to American Grilled Cheese Kitchen, so I checked the app and was pleased to see their Jalapeño Mac & Cheese on the menu that day. There was no extra delivery fee – just $0.79 tax added on and that was it.
There were lots of drivers in the area, so my order was accepted fairly quickly. By the time I got downstairs, the driver had pulled up to the curb with my bag.
The Food
I wasn’t a fan of the Mac & Cheese and the portion was absurdly small for $9. However, the food arrived in a timely manner and was still hot when I opened it. It also came in a reusable tote bag, which was nice.
Uber Eats has a different menu every day. While the selection is limited, there is usually something for everyone’s dietary needs. They also run some pretty fun promotions.

Last week they served deep-dish pizza along with a digital download of Home Alone for just $6 to celebrate the movie’s 25 year anniversary. A few days after that, they sent out Italian grandmothers to prepare and deliver authentic Italian meals. You really have to commend their creativity.
Final Thoughts on Uber Eats
Anyway, Uber Eats is very convenient for those times when you don’t feel like leaving the office but also don’t want to eat crackers for lunch. All you have to do is press a couple of buttons, then wait by the curb for the driver to drop off your food. Plus, with this Gilt deal you get $10 off your first order. So it’s definitely worth trying.
