Back in June BB&T Bank offered a $300 new account bonus (the amount changes constantly) if I deposited $1500 and made three small bill payments of $25 or more. I loaded the app on my phone and said “forget it” to the debit card.
All worked as planned and a couple of weeks ago I found the $300 bonus in my checking account. Another win for our team. And a week later I got a nice prequalified offer for a credit card from BB&T. This is my second change bonus opportunity.
The three cards offered are basic no fee, no-frills. One offers a standard 1.5% cash back. The other is a travel rewards card paying a 20,000 point (value $200) bonus. No first-year fee, $50 annual airline credit, $85 TSA credit and the fee, starting in the second year, of $59 if I spend $2,000 in the first 90 days of account ownership.
Now I am a sucker for a free sign-up bonus and I really appreciate them giving me a prequalified second opportunity after I did the checking account bonus. I have no idea how the travel rewards work but I’m going to give it a try now and report my results.
BB&T is merging with Suntrust and I have an account with them as well so might as well as when they join I’ve got a good excuse for closing the least valuable accounts of the combined bank.

I like checking Doctor of Credit’s Bank Bonuses page for quick and easy sign-up bonuses. I’m looking for simple account openings, without big balance requirements or direct deposits. And I just won’t do those make “15 debit card transaction” requirements either.
I’m going to highly recommend you watch those bank bonus pages on DofC and other sites. This second offer from a lesser-known bank to many, made that checking account sign-up bonus even sweeter.
This is a well-respected and active readership. If you run into any other small bank or credit union opportunities that gave you a second opportunity or just offered a nice first-time bonus, this is a good crowd to share it with.
